Ryan Mason

Ryan Mason

Social Media Manager
My name is Ryan Mason. For most of my life I was known simply as “Mason.” In fact, I’m sure there are people out there who have absolutely no clue – and would be shocked to find out – that my first name is not, in fact, Mason.

Hopefully they will stumble upon this humble one-page website and see that I want to express my true condolences for keeping them in the dark for so long.  It wasn’t entirely my fault: people started calling me Mason in middle school and it just stuck.

You see, in the early-80s, a bunch of mothers-to-be in the Midwest decided that they would all name their sons Ryan and then a large group of those little baby Ryans grew up into occasionally annoying pre-teen Ryans who all ended up in my middle school and – naturally – even in my same classes, getting ridiculous to the point where there were five of us now-teenaged-but-still-rather-immature Ryans in one class so we had no choice but to either go by our full names (which just took way too long) or go by our last name or some nicknamed variation.

That being said, I prefer being called by my proper first name now.  After all, it is the name my mother gave me. I don’t find myself surrounded by a multitude of Ryans like in my past and I must say it feels very liberating to know that when someone calls out “Hey, Ryan!” that person is actually addressing me.  Plus, it also avoids that awkward conversation that goes something like this:

“And this is my buddy, Mason.”

“Jason?”

“No, Mason.”

“Oh, Mason. Cool name.”

“Yeah, well, I mean, it’s Ryan, actually, but everyone calls me Mason.  Mason’s my last name.”

(And then the original friend’s face goes ashen as he says:)

“Wait, what? Your first name isn’t Mason?”

It wasn’t always like that. Most times I’d just go along with it and keep up the lie with no one the wiser for it. I was Mason. The one and only. No need for clarification since no one asked for my last name. I essentially adopted a one-name moniker usually saved for only the truly deserving, but I knew deep down that I had no business with just one name. At least, not yet.

Also - I head up the social media strategy, education, and implementation here at Partners Trust. I love my job.
