Two Partners Trust Homes in the Running for WSJ’s 2017 House of the Year

Wall Street Journal’s annual House of the Year award is approaching its final days of voting and this year, two Partners Trust listings are in the running to win the coveted 2017 title. Distinguished by arresting architecture and design, both Los Angeles residences also boast amenities that would make any houseguest swoon, let alone a national audience of real estate aficionados. All homes that are in the running have been selected from the winners of WSJ’s weekly polls. Last year, after more than 230,000 voters, WSJ readers chose a 1920s Colonial Revival in Kendallville, Ind., as their 2016 winner.

Which home will emerge victorious for 2017? Take a closer look at Partners Trust’s two runner-ups below, then cast your vote for your favorite now through January 2, 2018. May the best home win!

A Los Angeles Cabin Both Rustic and Contemporary

Log Cabin

Set within the iconic Uplifters Ranch neighborhood of Rustic Canyon, 38 Haldeman Road is a contemporary lodge-inspired home that has been recognized in several publications, including California Home & Design and Elle Decor. The 6,195-square-foot estate was thoughtfully transformed to create a thoroughly modern home more than double the size of its historic muse. Aside from naturally fallen lodgepole pine timber from Montana that forms the home’s framing, this inspired 6-bedroom retreat boasts an enchanting great room with stone fireplace, plunge pool, and stone walkways that undulate through a three-story high hillside park. The property is listed with Hugh Evans III of Partners Trust.

A Car Lover’s Contemporary Home in the Clouds

Contemporary House

Dreamed-up by mastermind architects Hagy Belzberg and George Wittman, Yellow Hill Retreat, a namesake derived from the road that leads to the property, is dramatically poised upon a prime 32-acre site bordering national parkland in Malibu. It’s difficult to imagine how any home could step out from the shadow created by this breathtaking scenery, yet the 5-bedroom wonder does just that by way of cantilevered living spaces, walls of glass, and a fully-appointed guest home. Built by the founder of a car company, the residence also includes accents that allude to the racing life, along with a 20-car motor court and an in-home car gallery. The property is listed with Sarah Ribnick Kosasky, Katie Bentzen, and Mimi Mccormick of Partners Trust.
