Eataly Opens its First West Coast Location in Century City

An epic celebration of Italian food, wine, and pastry unfolded over the weekend as the beloved Italian marketplace, Eataly, opened its first West Coast location inside the revamped Westfield Century City mall. The decade-old Italian institution, which has 38 stores worldwide, welcomed visitors to its 67,000-square-foot L.A. emporium featuring four restaurants alongside nine eateries, a pair of cafes, two bars, five different retail departments and another five production counters where you can watch pasta, mozzarella, bread, gelato, and cannoli being made fresh daily.

To highlight the very best of Italy and California, Eataly’s purchasing team oversaw a tryout of sorts wherein L.A.-based vendors shared their products and stories for the opportunity to be featured among Eataly’s coveted aisles of fancy packaged goods. And since navigating through three floors and 10,000 plus products can intimidate even the most seasoned shopper, American Chef and Eataly investor Mario Batali suggests that you imagine you’re in a little town, rather than a restaurant.

“One of the hard sells in all of the Eataly stores is that you can’t have everything you want whenever you want it,” Batali told ABC7. “We don’t sell dessert [at the pasta counter] so after you’ve had your antipasto and your pasta, you must go to the gelato place, you must go to the bomboloni place or you must go to the coffee place.”

Eataly is located at Westfield Century City, 10250 Santa Monica Blvd. Second floor (cafes, gelato, cooking school) open daily 8 a.m. – 11 p.m.; Third floor (marketplace and restaurants) open daily 9 a.m. – 11 p.m.
